At Russell Hall, the teaching of music ensures that all children have access to a broad and balanced curriculum that increases their confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. We want all children to have access to a wide genre of music and understand what music is through listening, playing, analysing, evaluating and composing music. We want children to have not only the skills for music but also the passion and curiosity to continue this after they leave our school. Our teaching intends for children to use music as a form of expression and make links between other areas of the curriculum at school and in the wider community.

Pupils at Russell Hall are part of a village that has strong connections to the famous brass band – Black Dyke. It is our intent that pupils are given the opportunity to continue to develop and promote this heritage link in their own lives and the lives of their families. There are opportunities for pupils to play in the local band (Revolution)

Here at Russell Hall it is our intent that all pupils are given the opportunity to play an instrument/instruments throughout Key Stage Two and become confident to further their skills in their musical journey when they leave us should they wish to do so.
